Writing this year has been... weird. Because I've written a lot, but at the same time I have very little to show for it. So I don't really know how to quantify it. According to my usual counter, I have written 15 works for a total of 42.721 words; if you subtract my Blackwatch Big Bang entry (11k words) and add my NaNoWriMo attempt (15k words), it's actually around 46k words, which isn't that bad.
Let's talk stories now.
▲ My Favourite Story of 2019
I actually don't have one, or better, I have too many.
▲ My Best Story this year
We'll Never Get Used To It feels like the closest to my current skill level. Aesthetically and stylistically. I'm very satisfied with this story. I've played with imagery and structure, and it feels true.
▲ Story most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion
I'm not actually disappointed in Policy of Truth, but I feel like it's not my best work. I understand why it went so underappreciated.
▲ Most fun story
Complementary Colours. Julian/Nadia is not the weirdest pairing I've ever shipped but it still feels weird, and this story was fun to write because of that. Also, there's gay pirates getting married in the middle of a storm. As you do.
▲ Sexiest story
I haven't written much sex this year, but the most sensual story is again Complementary Colours.
▲ Story that shifted my own perception of the characters
Work in Proggress doesn't exactly fit for this category, but I finally got to write backstory for Zenyatta and it got me thinking about omnics and what it means to be a person, so. I'll make it count.
▲ Biggest surprise
Past Selves because honestly I didn't think I would've ever written for SGRS. I actually wrote two stories for this fandom.
▲ Biggest disappointment
Cannot link back to anything, but NaNoWriMo was disappointing, indeed. I started out pretty well but then I lost steam. I do have a little bit of raw material I can work on, but it still feels I could've done so much better. Frustration!!!
▲ Easiest story to write
I refuse filling this category because this year everything felt like pulling teeth.
▲ "Holy crap that's wrong even for you" story
Ritual Humiliation came incredibly close to this. It's still pretty dark but the draft was worse.
▲ Most unintentionally telling story
I almost forgot about A love affair that glides on the offshore tides. It was supposed to be about cheating but in the end it's about fear of committment. It's about waiting for love. It's about insanity.
