Jul. 6th, 2020 10:38 pmi'm not great with color prompts but i always loved color coded characters so i decided to do a little icon spam of my fave characters and maybe a little rambling, idek.
( prompt #1: red )
( A red rose is not selfish because it wants to be a red rose. -Oscar Wilde )
( Orange is red brought nearer to humanity by yellow. -Wassily Kandinsky )

artemis fowl and whatever the fuck
Jun. 14th, 2020 01:32 amBefore you start reading: this is a review of Artemis Fowl (2020) directed by Kenneth Branagh
the good: they got the visuals right, the cast was amazing, there were a few clever additions that I really loved and a few changes I didn't mind.
the bad: the pacing was a mess, the premise was a mess, Artemis was mischaracterized and basically rendered unrecognizable.
Movies adapted from books are notorious for being, more often than not, a miss. Myself, I spent the best time of my teenage years joyfully shredding through movie adaptations of my favourite books, judging and criticizing and pointing out all the passages where they differentiated from the original text-- at the time it seemed an absolute sin. Why make it in a movie at all, if you weren't going to keep 'the good bits'?
Then I grew up and I started studying screenwriting storytelling. Turns out that writing a script is pretty fucking hard. Turns out that adaptation is not only hard but, just like translation, is also very much not an exact science. Prose and script are as similar languages as english and japanese, and trying to make a one-to-one transfer is not going to work. As much as I suffered to admit it, you can't keep everything, so you have to make a choice. The fans of the book are gonna gut you anyway.
After years spent comparing the movies and their book counterparts, I feel like a good adaptation should keep at the very least the same feel of the origin material; on top of that it should have the same characters, the same themes, and the same overall plot. Sometimes adjustments are necessary because maybe there's too much stuff going on, or because it might be hard to get across on screen, or because the book is garbage but the concept is too good not to try and expand on it (and even then, good luck trying to make something that doesn't suck).
Artemis Fowl (2020) is not a good adaptation.

CURRENT FANDOM
obsessed with the witcher since october 2019 and still going pretty strong. I've played the witcher 3: wild hunt and the dlc again. i read the books but not the comics, and i've seen the nfx show but not the polish one; keeping a little something for a rainy day, you know?
i mostly write geralt/jaskier but i also love the other witchers and the vampire with the ridiculously long name.
PAST FANDOM TIMELINE
*absolutely not exhaustive
jan 2020 // the witcher // i actually played the game in nov-oct 2019 but after the series i couldn't hold back anymore. i'm currently in the middle of reading time of contempt, baptism of fire, i'm playing my second tw3 run, and i'm trying to write my first chaptered fic since 2007, may the lord have mercy on my soul.
nov 2019 // homestuck // back full force into my life because in the last months of 2019 i worked on a project for school where i attempt to sound a lot smarter than i actually am while i convince people to read the thing that basically made 40% of me into what i am today.
jun 2019 // good omens // a brief but heartfelt affair.
nov 2018 // shouwa genroku rakugo shinjuu // late with starbucks at the party.
jun 2017 // overwatch // despite the fact that my favourite character is zenyatta I ended up writing a lot of mcgenji instead. honestly i have a bias for the green ninja and his brother, but i also love gabriel reyes and jesse mccree with all my being, so that's maybe why.
jun 2016 // voltron legendary defenders // i should actually say that I had an obsession with lance but then i ran away when the fandom discourse turned messy. i still call him the tailor because he always threads the needle of my heart.
sep 2015 // suits // also called 'that time i wrote so much het sex. so much. it's unbelieveable'.
sep 2014 // hannibal // becaues blood looks black in the moonlight, and because i wrote a single fic in the fandom but it was a very hard one.
apr 2012 // mcu // the curse that never stops hurting. in this house we appreciate tony stark, deal with it.
sep 2011 // inception // the joy that keeps giving.
JOURNAL CONTENT & INTERACTION
most posts are restricted, but i'm not fussy with access. just ask to be added. If you want you can introduce yourself a little, it would make me very happy.
what you'll find once you get access: mostly half-birthed meta, vent posts, reflections about stuff and yearly reviews, so far. a few things are crossposted to/from pillowfort and my writing dw account at somewhatclear.
feel free to leave a comment anywhere you like. i try to reply as much as i can! vent posts are my first step towards acknowledging my issues so don't feel pressured to engage with them. email is for business queries (as in: if you want to commission me to write something) but if you really want to drop me a line i won't refuse to answer.
do not repost my fanfiction or other written work. reblog or post a link to the original post on AO3/dreamwidth if you must, and notify me about it. on the other hand, you can remix my works however you like: that includes rewritings, spinoffs, translations, fanarts, podfics etc. let me see what you've made so i can love you!
my tagging system is... a mess, mostly because i haven't used this place to write in a long time, so i don't know what i will do with it yet. here's the list. i'll try to warn for nsfw content and restrict posts accordingly.
if you're an anti or a TERF or similar, feel free to fuck all the way off.

reviewing 2k19 | fandom
Jan. 4th, 2020 12:29 pmI've watched 34 movies (which would be a perfectly respectable result if 7 of them weren't re-watches); my watchlist isn't getting any shorter any time soon. I also failed my goodreads challenge, even though it wasn't as bad as I thought: 11 books instead of 15. It's still kinda disappointing though, I hoped to do so much better! On the other hand, I read diverse things, between prose and graphic novels. The category I did better is serial-tv: 11 live-action shows, 10 anime titles, 7 western animation shows. I also played lots of games between videogames (8 titles) and ttrpgs (2-3 titles). I also went to the theater, which was something I really missed. Too bad it's so expensive.
Let's look into the details, shall we?
( Fandom 2019 )
Biting off more than I can chew
Dec. 1st, 2019 10:21 pmI always wanted to write meta about homestuck, but I never had the chance. I felt like I wasn’t ready for that kind of contribution to the fandom: my English wasn’t good enough, I didn’t know enough, I was too much of a dumbass to actually try and produce smart commentary.
The fact that homestuck is so huge in the US and on the Internet while being almost completely unknown everywhere else has always driven me nuts, especially because I feel like there’s a ton of mainstream stuff - stuff with an international reach - that has been unwittingly influenced by it.
I even entertained for a brief moment to make it the topic of my Bachelor’s degree dissertation - I didn’t just because I was getting my degree already late as it was. But the urge always stayed. It grew even stronger as I started going to writing/storytelling school.
So the idea was to make a website where I can talk about homestuck in italian, to people who aren’t exactly into webcomics but are into storytelling, as a project for my WordPress course.
Fuck me sideways with a shark.

Jun. 16th, 2019 05:35 pmNow let me be an annoying queer Catholic for five minutes.
Like every Sunday, I went to mass this morning. Like every Sunday, I sang in the choir and I followed the celebration and I prayed as best as I could, which is something that doesn't come easily to me for a number of reasons, but I still do because that's what I believe in. Then, during the sermon, the priest said something along the lines: "If people these days live as if God was unimportant, it's all society's fault".
In context, it sounded like 'the people in this church at this moment are the only people who care about God' and 'whatever are we gonna do about those sinners who don't go to church on Sundays?' and also 'we're not part of society because we're the Church of God'.
Try identifying as someone that your people famously consider a one-way ticket to Hell. You're sitting among them, listening to that same sermon, singing in the choir next to them, and they don't know about that part of you. Would they be as happy and welcoming as they are, if they knew?
